Forty-Nine Gold Cars: Texas Registry Ticks Up

Public tallies of Tesla's purpose-built Cybercab fleet in Texas have moved from about 45 at launch to 49 in state automated-vehicle records.

Tesla's Cybercab count in Texas is no longer stuck on 45.

State automated-vehicle records shared this week put the registered Robotaxi Cybercab fleet at 49, four more than the tally that circulated at last week's Austin launch. The broader Tesla robotaxi fleet in Texas is about 420 vehicles, most of them Model Ys.

Forty-nine is still a pilot. It is also the first time the purpose-built cab, not the stand-in SUV, is the number that moved.

Texas authorized the vehicles for driverless operation statewide. Public rides remain limited to parts of Austin. Tesla has not said how many of the 49 are in passenger service at any hour.

For fleet buyers filling out Tesla's interest form, the registry is the supply picture as it stands. The factory video Tesla posted this week is the argument that the number will not stay here.
