Gold Goes East: Cybercab Display Tour Hits Asia

Tesla will show the two-seater in Hong Kong, Japan, Beijing, and Shanghai starting this week, with no sales and no rides on the calendar.

The Cybercab that just entered paid service in Austin is going on the road in Asia as a display piece, not a taxi.

Tesla said the vehicle will appear in Hong Kong and in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, then in Beijing and Shanghai from mid-September. The company has said there are no plans for sales, test drives, or commercial operations on this tour.

A static show is still a statement. China is the other scale market for a low-cost autonomous cab. Putting the production car in Beijing and Shanghai, a week after Austin rides began, keeps that door in view.

Tesla has not said when, or whether, a Robotaxi service would follow the displays.

Claire Bennett covers the Robotaxi map, fleet counts, and the cities still waiting.
