Sawyer Merritt’s Cybercab Night: Bigger Room, Faster Cabs

About 250 Tesla employees mixed with more than 150 outside invitees. Wait times beat the June 2025 Model Y launch, he says, on a service area ten times larger.

AUSTIN, Texas - Sawyer Merritt closed Cybercab launch night with a scorecard that put scale beside the celebration: hundreds of Tesla people in the room, more than 150 outside invitees, and Cybercab waits that, in his telling, beat the first Model Y Robotaxi night even as the map grew tenfold.

In a late Thursday post on X, the Tesla-focused reporter thanked readers for sticking with spotty wifi coverage and said Exclusive Access felt mainly like a party for the teams that built the car. Roughly 250 employees were there. He estimates he spoke with about forty of them. “They’re super excited,” he wrote.

The guest math matters for anyone still judging the night by the missing livestream. Merritt counted more than 150 non-employee invitees, including plus-ones. Tesla, he noted, called it a Cybercab launch - and launched unsupervised Cybercabs with no steering wheels onto the Robotaxi network, with general public rides set for Friday.

His comparison with June 2025 is the sharpest line. That Model Y Robotaxi debut, he recalled, put eleven vehicles in front of about twenty-five invitees. On Thursday, demand was higher and the Austin service area was about ten times larger, yet Cybercab wait times were “often better.” He also posted the full on-site presentation for anyone locked out of the room.
